Accel closed a $550 million ninth India fund, smaller than its prior $650 million vehicle, as partners say AI applications across consumer, fintech, software and manufacturing are driving the next cycle. About half of Fund VIII remains undeployed, leaving Accel near $1 billion of India dry powder with the new capital. The raise sits inside a $3.5 billion global Accel package that includes $1.35 billion for late-stage bets. Partners told Moneycontrol they still write early cheques near $3 million to $4 million. The caveat is that Accel is chasing applied AI products, so returns hinge on durable margins rather than foundation-model demos.
