Chennai is not waiting for a private campus to invent the future. Tamil Nadu’s Vetri Thamizhagam vision, reported by The New Indian Express from a cabinet document, pitches Arivagam as India’s first dedicated AI City: university, GPU cluster, semiconductor labs, and skill centres under one roof. Beside it sits a bigger cheque. The proposed Tamil Nadu Strategic Investment Authority would hold a Rs 50,000-crore corpus to co-invest in AI, semis, EVs, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. The AI City itself is still a policy sketch, not a line item. If the next budget hardens both, India gets another state-scale industrial AI bet.
